About Us
A little about MVMCS..............
Mountain View Montessori opened in 2000 with two classrooms. It was founded by
parents, and child development advocates, Mary Sypkens and Dr. Kristin Droege
as an alternative means for children to be educated in the high desert.
Within a few years, Mountain View expanded to four classrooms and by 2008, it
expanded yet again to six classrooms. Currently, Mountain View is thriving and
has a waiting list of 30-50 families at any given time.
Facilities.........
The facilities at Mountain View have proven to be a challenge but, where there is a
will, there is a way. Faculty members and families continue to utilize the space
behind Liberty Elementary and have greatly appreciated the flexibility that Liberty
has provided. Currently, there are seven portables to serve our needs (six
classrooms and one office). Facilities of our own, however, are a vision that we
hope to make a reality in the near future.
Philosophy..........
The philosophy of Mountain View is based on the findings of Maria Montessori.
Children at MVMCS receive a three hour work period in the morning where they are
exposed to a variety of tools and lessons that promote purposeful work. We
encourage you to visit our classrooms, where you will observe our teachers
guiding a child´s curiosity, encouraging critical thinking and valuing each
individual child.
